A number, a place, a concept. In this instance, Nineteen makes reference to the ever-popular term used for a restaurant or clubhouse on a golf course, the “Nineteenth Hole”.
Nineteen by Michael Restaurant, Bar & Terrace becomes more than just a physical location; it transforms into a nexus of connection charged with the promise of delicious food and quality service.
Nineteen by Michael evokes a sense of excitement, inviting individuals to gather, exchange ideas, and weave stories within an ambiance that echoes timeless allure.
Our restaurant offers guests a choice of where they would like to dine: the formal restaurant with a more sophisticated a la carte menu, the trendy bar and lounge where diners can enjoy a drink, or the terrace which also caters to golfers in search of a pre-game breakfast, or post-game drink.
In addition, Nineteen by Michael Restaurant, Bar & Terrace can accommodate a number of special events, from birthday bashes and corporate launches, to intimate wedding ceremonies and golf days.
About Michael Holenstein & the Team
Trained in Switzerland, Michael has more than 35 years of luxury food and hospitality experience. After graduating, Michael worked in Switzerland and Scotland before returning to South Africa to take up a position at St James, at the Johannesburg Sun and Towers. Working in some of South Africa’s top 5 star hotels for several years. In 1991, Michael opened his first restaurant, the much-loved and popular Papa Gigi Trattoria.
In 1994, Michael moved his family to Magaliesburg to take on the challenge of opening a country hotel, and De Hoek Country House was established. As Managing Director and Co-Owner, Michael and his team turned De Hoek into an award-winning, globally-recognised 5-star luxury hotel. De Hoek went on to achieve a spot on the top 100 restaurants in South Africa for many years and won many fine dining accolades, including American Express Fine Dining.
Now, Michael has shifted his focus, developing Nineteen by Michael to bring guests a truly unique dining experience set against the magnificent backdrop of Steyn City’s golf course.
Your experience at Nineteen by Michael is enriched by our incredible team of capable chefs, waiters, barmen, and hosts; some of which have journeyed with Michael over the years.
The team of chefs, headed up by Mpotseng Modise, are committed to food excellence, and go out of their way to create memorable dining experiences for their guests. Marc Letzler, who has many years of experience in managing restaurants, heads up the front of house.
Bookings & Reservations
Nineteen by Michael is open to both outside guests, golfers, and Steyn City residents. It’s imperative that outside guests make a reservation in order to gain access into the lifestyle estate. Reservations can be made online or by calling +27 10 597 1019.
